The compact disc was compiled at the Komarov Botanical Institute, St.Petersburg, in 1997-1998, as a contribution to the International Legume Database and Information Service (ILDIS).

The disc contains:

• the complete taxonomic check-list of the order Fabales in the flora of Northern Eurasia, both in English and Russian languages, with data on 2,254 wild, alien and widely cultivated species,

• information obtained on the basis of taxonomic research of the authors, as well as a collective revision of 75 Herbaria and a review of more 800 Russian and foreign scientific publications,

• 2,254 maps of species distribution in the territory of Northern Eurasia, which can be combined with different schemes of subdivision of the territory,

• 1,975 black-and-white and 535 colour images of 1,256 species, including 220 full screen colour slides,

• diagnoses, maps of distribution and diagnostic pictures of 27 tribes and 105 genera,

• over 250 pages of information in two languages, in the form of hypertext,

• wide possibilities for searching species by Latin or vernacular names, synonyms, authors of combinations and fragments of names,

• the possibility of making queries by main fields, with further export of text reports.
