Downloading and running

If you have a copy of the mini-CD, you can use it immediately in most computers that run Windows and have a CD or DVD drive (apart from some slot-loading drives). ILDIS Explorer has been tested with MS Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me and XP. The software does not require installation and can be run directly from the CD or copied to a hard disk.

Downloading ILDIS Explorer

If you do not have a copy of the mini-CD, you can download the exact same software and data. There are several choices.

• If you have WinRAR, unrar or another program which can uncompress RAR files, then download one of the RAR compressed archive files, because they are the smallest.
• If you do not have WinRAR or unrar, but do have a program such as PKZip, or one of the many other programs which can uncompress RAR files, then download one of the ZIP compressed archive files.
• The best way to guarantee that you can make a CD identical to the distributed mini-CDs is to download the RAR- or ZIP-compressed ISO image file, and then uncompress it to recover the original 43 megabyte ISO CD image. (You can also download the uncompressed image file Explorer1.00.iso if you have no uncompression software and plenty of bandwidth.) You can write this to a mini-CD or a full-size CD or a DVD, but you must make sure that your CD-writing program understands that it is being given a CD image to write to the CD. If it thinks it's just an ordinary file and writes it to the CD, you will have manufactured a coaster.
• If you are unsure how to tell your CD writing software to use the ISO image file, you can instead download a RAR- or ZIP-compressed archive of all the files required. You will have to uncompress these while retaining the original directory structure, then write everything (three directories and four other files) to a blank CD (or to a suitable directory on your hard drive or memory stick).

Whether you use the ISO image or the separate directories and files, you should end up with a CD which, when inserted, starts running the ILDIS Explorer software automatically. If this doesn't happen, go to the CD folder and double-click on the ILDIS Explorer icon.

There is actually no need to create a CD at all. If you prefer, just download the files as above (avoiding the ISO image file options), and uncompress the files to a suitable directory on your hard drive or memory stick.
