Introduction

ILDIS World Database of Legumes: draft checklist, version 10 (November 2005) edited by Y.R. Roskov, F.A. Bisby, J.L. Zarucchi, B.D. Schrire and R.J. White. CD-ROM. ISBN 0 7049 1248 1. ILDIS: Reading, U.K., ILDIS, 2006

The release of the database (version 10, November 2005) contains draft taxonomic checklist of 19,939 species, 5,118 infraspecific taxa, 28,498 synonyms and 14,073 common names of Legumes.

The principal content of each species record originates in one of the regional checklist datasets that have been incorporated into the database (credited in the Source field). However the taxonomic treatment of species in each genus and tribe have in most cases been harmonised world-wide by interactions between taxon specialists acting as ILDIS Taxonomic Co-ordinators (credited in the Global Taxonomic Co-ordinators field) and the editorial team. Merging and scrutiny of datasets of Indo-China, N. Eurasia, S. Asia, Malesia, the Indian Ocean, Madagascar and China has been led by Dr. Yuri Roskov in 2004-2005 (GBIF ECAT Seed Money project).
